2020 Design Trends
Each new year brings with it an opportunity to refresh many areas in your life and your home decor is no exception. Interior design trends for 2020 are promising to deliver on warmth, character, bold colors, and more. Learn about which trends are in and which are on their way out in this year’s hottest new trends compiled by the CRG design team.
2020 Colors Of The Year
The Colors of The Year Top companies such as Behr and Benjamin Moore have released their colors of the year for 2020, and we are loving this palette! Light greens, blush pinks and deep blues round out the top color trends for this year, and play gorgeously into the nature-trend we are seeing throughout home design.
Behr released its 2020 color of the year, which designers say hints at the trends predicted ahead for the next decade. 'Back To Nature' is one of 15 hues included in Behr's 2020 Color Trend palette, and designers predict this light green hue to become the "new neutral."
Benjamin Moore introduced their color of the year for 2020 called ‘First Light,’ the first pink hue chosen as the color of the year. This soft, airy rose-pink “blossoms with potential” providing the proper modern backdrop for a shiny new year.
Sherwin Williams revealed their color of the year for 2020 as 'Naval', a deep shade of blue many top designers have been using in fresh, unexpected ways.
What’s The Room of The Year?
According to National Home Builders Association, "thoughtful planning and attentive design of the kitchen sets the tone for the rest of the home." Considered to be "the heart of the home,” the kitchen will continue to be the central gathering space for family and guests.
What's In and What's Out
Here are the interior design trends experts predict to come and go in 2020.
IN: 'Grandmillenial Style'
"This look is traditional design with a twist," says ElleDECOR interior designer. Create this nouveau style by combining elements of classical design (such as scallops, natural fiber rugs, and topiaries) with a contemporary edge defined by modern art and clean lines.
OUT: Gray On Gray
While gray on gray hues were all the rage over the past decade, people are now leaning more towards warmer toned palettes with bolder accent colors to create welcoming spaces in the home.
IN: Black Painted Doors
Design trends for 2020 are all about adding warmth to a room and creating spaces that envelop the beholder. Painting interior doors a rich color is a great way to add both warmth and an artistic element to any space, especially when paired with fantastic hardware.
OUT: White Doors Under White Trim
While white on white is safe and classic, it misses the statement factor that design trends are heading towards in 2020.
IN: Bold Monochromatics & Single Print Drama
Bold colors and single print floor to ceiling wallpaper are the perfect ways to add drama and character to a room. Simple yet eye catching, these are chic ways to make a statement.
“Bold, Fully Wrapped Powder Rooms” like this model home in Living Dunes are also among Houzz’s top trends for 2020
OUT: Pale Monochromatics
Albeit soothing and calm, pale monochromatics are being deemed ‘too safe’ and leaving homeowners and designers wanting to add more life and personality to their spaces.
IN: Personality & Character
From dining rooms with personality, to powder rooms with drama, this year’s design trends are about adding character into the home and creating welcoming individual spaces.
OUT: Harshness & Perfectionism
Homeowners and decorators are straying away from cold industrial design that has been popular over the past few years, preferring to create warm and truly livable spaces that can withstand life’s spills and stains.
